A WORD ABOUT DR. DEMENTO AND WHY HE IS NO LONGER LISTED HERE:
It has come to our attention that Barry Hansen, the man behind the Dr. Demento show, fell into financial problems back in 2007 or so. The show has lost a large number of advertisers and because of this, Hansen has decided to disallow any free streaming of the program. This, of course, makes the situation worse, since approximately half of the radio stations in the country stream audio; Hansen has, rather pigheadedly, blocked any stations that stream audio from receiving new episodes. He's effectively cutting off what few advertisers he has left by doing this and cannibalizing his outlets. He now has a whopping seven affiliates left-- keep in mind, he used to have hundreds. Barry, I love the music, but you're no businessman. Enjoy having your little subscription-only Internet show, because that's where you're headed, and there's no way you'll be able to make enough money to run your show that way. It is with great disappointment that I have this message here, because Demento was, for many months, the first and only music-oriented show I carried on this page. It is by far my favorite show and one of the few I made a point to listen to every week. I don't engage in advocacy, but if you feel the same way I do, you can voice your displeasure with Hansen's "Talonian Productions" company through a message at this page or this one.

However, "folk" music is listed in "other" immediately under the country section.

PLAYERS
You do not need all of these players to listen to the audio streams, most either use Winamp/Real Player (MP3 streams) or Windows Media Player. A handful use more exotic players.

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
REALPLAYER
NULLSOFT WINAMP MP3 PLAYER
APPLE ITUNES/QUICKTIME PACKAGE
STREAMER P2P PLAYER
ABACAST STREAMING MEDIA CLIENT
APPLIAN REPLAY RADIO*
*This is a recording software; it is optional but highly useful for the short form programs.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're not going to buy it, I STRONGLY recommend downloading the Version 6 or Version 7, NOT the current Version 8 (AKA "Replay AV"). Free trials of versions 6/7 allow up to 15 minutes of recording for life, the latest Version 8 only allows 5.
