Thanksgiving Fullervision Style 2005

THIS YEAR, THANKSGIVING LANDS ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2005

There are exactly

days until Thanksgiving.

THE FOOD GUIDE

Of course, the most common food that is ever eaten during the Thanksgiving holiday is roast turkey. Generally, how one roasts a turkey is by thawing it (using the "cold water" method, this takes about 30 minutes per pound, so obviously an overnight job), removing the neck and giblets, adding some crouton-based stuffing, and cooking the turkey at 325°F for 15 minutes per pound until the meat is at 180°F. Further details can be found from this Web site. In a crisis, call the Butterball Hotline at 1-800-BUTTERBALL (that is, 1-800-288-8372)*.
*Corrected: There was a transcribing error here that said the number was 1-800-288-3722. That number is wrong. The correct number is 1-800-288-8372.

THE DAY AFTER

TRAVEL
Thanksgiving is among the busiest travel days of the year. Traditionally, the weather isn't too nice, either, especially in this part of the country. Initial forecasts appear to live up to that standard. So, here are some links to help you out:
SHOPPING
Ah, yes, the day-after-Thanksgiving rush. It's become almost a holiday in itself, going to shop for your Christmas gifts, braving long lines in early hours just to be the first to get a crack at the bonanza sales that start between 5 and 6 AM and end by noon when stocks are depleted.

THE KICKOFF TO THE CHRISTMAS SEASON
Yes, if anything, the day after Thanksgiving starts that long month of Christmas anticipation. Many radio stations, mostly in the larger markets, begin playing Christmas music 24/7 around Thanksgiving night. Here's a synopsis:
Stations that have switched already: WJYE 96.1 Buffalo, WTSS 102.5 Buffalo, WYYY 94.5 Syracuse, WZUN 102.1 Syracuse
Stations that switch on Thanksgiving Day: WHTT 104.1 Buffalo, WRMM 101.3 Rochester, WISY 102.3 Canandaigua
The TV airwaves are filled with commercials for gifts... besides the bonanza of toys (including the usual "it toy" of the year-- Furby, Tickle Me Elmo, and others come to mind from years past), you see the annual plugs for the Presto Salad Shooter, the Clapper, and the ever-popular line of Chia Gifts. In addition to the ads, the annual plethora of Christmas specials hits the airwaves, from classics such as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" to the humorous "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." Even a left-wing propaganda piece.
I'll have a new page of Christmas Fullervision Style ready in late November, and it should be released sometime around Thanksgiving. It's going to be one heck of a time.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
J. Myrle Fuller
