Now this is what I call a plan: limits on pension increases (Newsday)... 8/6

...but this isn't: The village of Limestone wants to be reclassified as a "hamlet" and separate its government from the town of Carrolton. Apparently they don't quite understand the concept: once you're reclassified as a "hamlet," your government dissolves INTO the town of Carrolton, not separates from it. In order to do what they want, they need to reclassify Limestone as a "town" (i.e. a "township"). (Bradford Era) 8/6

Cool beans: Paterson's plans will cut $100,000,000 from the SUNY operating budget, if you are to believe anonymous sources (Plattsburgh Press-Republican)... 8/4

It's currently illegal for minors to buy tobacco, and for people to sell tobacco to minors, but possession is still technically legal. If the city of Salamanca has its way, possession will be illegal too (Salamanca Press)... 7/29

*Indicates appearance by me.
+Indicates that an extra grandstand admission fee is required for entry.

Well, this is a bit of a surprise: Long Island state senator Dean Skelos visits Jamestown (Jamestown Post-Journal)... 7/24

OBIT: Estelle Getty, 84. Best known for her role as Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls. (7/22)

PLEASE NOTE:
You may notice it has taken a few days to update the Web site... well, there's a reason for that. 1) I've had a lot of work the past few days. 2) Some bozo cracked the monitor on my laptop, so I'm going to have to get a new one. I just renewed Fullervision.net for another year. We'll still be around. Our fifth anniversary is coming up August 7 and I promise, I'll have something special for it if at all possible. Oh, and fair week is coming! 7/21

Gee, make a state hostile to business and guess what happens?! Business taxes a whopping $453,000,000 below state projections (AP)... 7/18

Remember, folks: Brake left, gas right. Otherwise you end up crashing into the Dollar General in Great Valley (Salamanca Press)... 7/15

Lloyd Long of Pirshlo Inc., the company that used to own Uni-Mart, the Chronicle, the laundromat and tanning booth, pleads guilty (Jamestown Post-Journal)... 7/15

Disturbing little "money quote" from senate majority leader Dean Skelos: "I think I'm a little more low-key than Joe. That's going to bode well for getting results, especially with David because I think our styles our similar. Actually, he's got a better sense of humor than me." (Syracuse Post-Standard)... 7/13

South Valley restaurant robbed (WESB)... 7/11

Good news for bear hunters (and by bears, I don't mean the cops): Cattaraugus County is about to be opened up to bear hunting, with 300-500 permits to be issued in the Allegany region (AP)... 6/30 After some bear problems down in the state park the past few years I am not surprised, in fact I am pleased, with the decision.

Another year, another couple of bozos get stranded in Zoar Valley (AP)... 6/30

More natural gas drilling in the southern tier (Jamestown Post-Journal)... 6/26

WELCOME TO UPSTATE NEW YORK, A.K.A. THE CHOPPED LIVER DISTRICT OF NEW YORK CITY: The last upstate leadership position in New York, Joseph Bruno, resigns, who, despite having a Binghamton man as next in line, will instead be replaced by yet another downstate stooge in Dean Skelos (AP) (Skelos's press release)... nobody gives a damn about us anymore. I'm pissed. We've been screwed every way to Sunday and now that the last guy from the area of the state that owns 90% of the land in the state resigns, only to be replaced by yet another downstater. Ridiculous. Like I said, I'm REALLY mad that our voice is about to be shut out from the three men in a room. This place is supposed to be a REPUBLIC, not rule by a mob of 51% tucked into a tiny corner of the state. I think I'm going to move to Pennsylvania... 6/24

Construction on Little Valley library commenced this past Sunday-- and like an idiot, I missed it. Cathy Young was in attendance (Salamanca Press, with photo)... 6/24

OBIT: George Carlin, 71. Comedian best known for his antiestablishment screeds. 6/23

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO SOME TECHNOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES WE HAVE HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH INTERNET ACCESS AND UPDATING THE SITE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE DIFFICULTIES.

Gormley's latest: support for a school tax increase cap is widespread and the unions are losing big time. Too bad the legislature isn't listening (AP)... 6/16
UPDATE 6/17: At least the state Senate gets it... WPIG reports the State Senate has approved the tax cap, no confirmation yet.

OBIT: Tim Russert, 58. Buffalo native and host of NBC's interview program "Meet the Press." 6/14

First New York and now PA too: Ed "Rendelphia" Rendell signs an indoor smoking ban (AP)... fortunately for PA, private clubs will be allowed to continue indoor smoking there. 6/13

Little Valley Speedway results... 6/8

Plane crash in Great Valley and fortunately, nobody was hurt (Olean Times Herald)... 6/6

The "Rent to own" phony outrage, Schumer's on board (Olean Times Herald)... Something needs to be explained here: when most people buy a car or home on loan, they end up paying approximately double what they would if they paid in cash. Why should buying appliances on a loan basis be any different in that regard? 6/6

Hot gossip: A source tells Fullervision that the local VFW post each of the village has been shut down. Fullervision is investigating the situation. 6/5
UPDATE 6/6: The shutdown was temporary; the bar had temporarily suspended operations as their liquor license, which had recently been renewed, was late in arriving through the mail. The bar has since reopened and the wine tasting will continue as scheduled.

Well, why am I not surprised? People collecting pensions while running them... what I am surprised is Andrew Cuomo going after them... 6/5

Michael Gormley's latest commentary on the proposed school tax cap-- well written, although he's more optimistic than I am about it all (AP)... 6/3
For those unfamiliar with the proposal, a proposed school tax cap would limit property tax increases to 4 percent per year unless voters approve an increase. Of course, the "contingency budget" system already limits spending without voter approval, so I don't think this proposal does a darn thing.

I'm all for this, although I'm not too thrilled about the Christian statists getting involved in this: lawsuit being brought in NY court to stop recognition of out-of-state gay marriage by executive order (AP)... 6/3 And the funny thing is that Paterson made this ruling to AVOID lawsuits.

Uni-Mart bankrupt, seeking buyer (WESB)... 6/2

Your taxes just went up-- cigarette taxes the highest in the nation (Jamestown Post-Journal) (AP)... 6/2 Money quote #1: "Nicotine is what keeps people smoking, but it is the smoking that is detrimental to their health." Yeah, sure... Money quote #2: "There are things that would stop me from smoking, but not the price. It does cut down on all the other things you have to buy." This kind of mindset has me worried about the laws of economics... Money quote #3: ""Isn't that something — to say that I'm excited about a tax increase? But I am." -- NY Health Commissioner. Of course, you're downright giddy.

I hate stories like this: journalists and politicians buddy-buddying up at dinners (AP)... 6/1

Hispanic gangs strike in Jamestown (Jamestown Post-Journal)... 6/1

Politcal races heat up... but no word on whether or not the incumbents face opposition (Jamestown Post-Journal)... 6/1
